Pathways to Freedom
Pathways to Freedom: Leading the Way to a Smoke Free Community© is a free resource designed to assist individuals and community leaders in their efforts to become smoke free, and end smoking-related diseases and death among African Americans.
This documentary-style video is a theoretically based smoking cessation program specifically targeting the African American community. Its development was supported by grants awarded to the University of Miami from the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society.
From Principal Investigator and Executive Producer, Dr. Monica Webb Hooper, this video retains the framework of the written Pathways to Freedom: Winning the Fight Against Tobacco booklet, yet represents a substantial and distinct enhancement of the written guide.
Pathways to Freedom: Leading the Way to a Smoke Free Community© combines knowledge regarding the history of smoking among African Americans, smoking cessation, and relapse prevention. The smoking cessation and relapse prevention content was based on contemporary cognitive behavioral techniques that have demonstrated success among African Americans in previous research.
